Updated 2/24/2026

We've written about St. Patrick's Day celebrations before, but residents of the Chicago metro area know that the Irish spirit in Chicagoland extends well beyond the day itself. With deep Irish roots and a thriving community, there's no reason to limit your celebrations to just one weekend in March. Whether you're interested in traditional music, sports, cultural events or just enjoying a pint in an authentic Irish pub, here's how to keep the spirit of Ireland alive all year long.

Explore Irish History at the Irish American Heritage Center

Mayfair, Chicago, IL

For cultural and historical programming that celebrates Irish music, theater, language, and more, look no further than the Irish American Heritage Center (IAHC). The IAHC hosts an annual Saint Patrick's Fest following the downtown parade, but there's even more to love about this historic cultural center every month of the year. Host your next private event at the IAHC, where you can choose from a variety of meeting and event spaces. Explore the on-site library for a collection of historic and contemporary Irish media, and stop by the Fifth Province Pub to enjoy a full menu of Irish fare while listening to live local music every weekend.

See a Show at the Mayfair Theatre

Mayfair, Chicago, IL

While the Mayfair Theatre is technically located within the Irish American Heritage Center, this unique events space deserves its own write-up as a place to catch Irish music, dance, and theater. The 658-seat venue offers an intimate setting to see both local and touring performers.

Take a Tour of Old St. Patrick's Church

West Loop, Chicago, IL

This historic church is the oldest public building in Chicago, and one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Old St. Patrick's was founded by Irish immigrants on Easter morning in 1846 and was the first English-speaking parish in the city. In celebration of its Irish heritage, the church is both host and presenter of many Irish cultural events, including the Siamsa na nGael at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall and Shamrock'n at Old St. Pat's on the church campus. Any time of year, you can schedule a tour of this real-life testament to the Irish immigrant dream. View the rest of the special events calendar here

Catch a Game at Chicago Gaelic Park

Oak Forest, IL

Chicago Gaelic Park was established in 1983 by a group of Irish friends seeking a dedicated space to play traditional Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) sports. While it remains a hub for traditional sports like Gaelic football and hurling, it has grown into the largest Irish cultural center in North America. The 53-acre property includes sports pitches, banquet halls, meeting rooms, and a traditional Irish pub, The Carraig. The center is even home to an Irish Theater group, the Gaelic Park Players. The highlight of the year is the annual Irish Fest, which takes place in August, but until then, you can explore a variety of Gaelic Park's community events on the calendar.

Go to Ireland with West Suburban Irish

Naperville, IL

Based out of Naperville, West Suburban Irish (WSI) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to celebrating Irish heritage, language, culture, art, music, literature, and sports throughout Chicago's western suburbs. Naturally, they throw an incredible St. Patrick's Day parade, but there's more to it than just one weekend of fun. Check out their events calendar for special programming or attend recurring events like the WSI quiz night and the annual Irish Mass. WSI even organizes an 8-day, 7-night trip to Ireland!

Join the Ireland Network Chicago

Chicago, IL

Ireland Network Chicago is a vibrant community of Irish professionals dedicated to fostering connections, networking, and celebrating Irish heritage in the Windy City. The organization hosts a variety of social events throughout the year,  from networking mixers to cultural gatherings and the annual black-tie ball. Ireland Network Chicago offers a welcoming space for both newcomers and longtime residents to celebrate their shared roots.

Stay Connected in Your Local Neighborhood

While this list is a great start, there's always something happening in Chicagoland. Follow neighborhood Irish organizations to stay up to speed on everything happening in your area. Whether you're of Irish descent or simply love the culture, Chicago offers endless opportunities to celebrate the Emerald Isle. Sláinte!
