When it comes to refreshing your living space, few changes are as simple yet transformative as a fresh coat of paint. Paint can even work wonders in changing how a room feels spatially. Whether you're looking for a bold statement or a subtle refresh, the possibilities are endless. Try one of these methods below to completely transform your living space.

Create More Space

White is the standard paint on most walls for a reason — it just works! Light, cool colors tend to make a room appear larger and more open. If you're working with a room that feels cramped, has little natural light or just lacks dimension, try painting the walls and ceiling with a fresh coat or white or other bright, lightly colored paint. This is also a great, cost-effective way to make your home appear bigger when staging a home to sell.

Make Things Cozy

Sometimes, you can have too much of a good thing. The drawback of bright, white walls is that they can present a challenge when trying to make a room feel cozier. Strong, bold and dark paint, however, will absorb light and make the room feel more compact. This can be useful in a spacious bedroom or one with large windows. The ample supply of natural light is great during the daytime but can be disturbing for light sleepers or people in busy, densely populated areas.

Lower the Ceiling

Modern, airy lofts are all the rage, but you want it to feel like a home — not a warehouse. Using a dark, light-absorbing color on the ceiling can help to close off the space and make it more "homey."

Create Dimension

If you were lucky enough to move into a home that came with wainscoting, molding or other types of paneling, you know what an elegant and sophisticated look it can create in a room. Installing it yourself, however, can be pretty costly and time-consuming. You can create a similar effect for a fraction of the price with precisely-applied paint.

Add Texture

Did you know that you can use limewash paint to add a subtle textural effect to any wall? This paint's unique appeal lies in its texture and movement — when applied, it creates subtle variations in tone and color that mimic the look of weathered plaster or stone.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab a brush, roll up your sleeves and get painting. Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh color to see your space in a whole new light.
